N.L.S.: Patti didn't play "Sweeney" in San Diego... it was a few performances with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. I was there on July 21, 2001. It is the San Francisco Sweeney Todd that was filmed and shown on PBS on Halloween Day 2001. From Roman in Austin, Texas...

Oh, I don't think that would have happened. Anyone who knows the history between Miss Patti and the actress known as "cruella de ville" is aware that a face to face meeting between the two would not have been pretty. I could only imagine what Miss Patti was thinking when Glenn Close was introduced to the music to "Sunset." Also, I mentioned in a previous post about how ODD it was that Joanna Gleason was involved in introducting the "Sweeney Todd" company when they did their little perf.......

Clearly there was some ill wind tonight for Miss Patti. First, Joanna Gleason introduces the "Sweeney Todd" ensemble. (Patti LuPone lost the Tony to J.G., who won for "Into the Woods".) Second, the actress known as Cruella De Ville is introduced with music from "Sunset Boulevard".... while Patti was in the audience... a role PATTI LUPONE should have played on Broadway!!!! The Death Of The American Musical ? Fact? or Fiction?
Jun 11th, 2006 6:17 PM by Patti LuPone FANatic

Hello. I just read an article on the death of the American musical.... especially with this 2005--2006 season. The article touches upon the onslaught of "jukebox musicals" or musicals based on films, 50's, 60's, 70's.. Basically, the article bemoans the lack of originality of a number of existing and new musicals. Perhaps someone can lend their perspective on this matter. from Roman in Austin, Texas... the official Patti LuPone FANatic... p.s. Patti LuPone for Best Actress in a Musical.......

Hello, I am rooting for Miss Patti to win for "Sweeney Todd." I figure her chances are helped immeasurably by the wonderful notices for the show in general. Plus, she has received fantastic notices from the critics. On the other hand, LaChanze has received good reviews for her performance, but her show in general, has not. It will be a close race....but me thinks that Miss Patti LuPone will win the Tony. from Roman in Austin, Texas... the official Patti LuPone FANatic...

Hello. I'd be interested to know how many of you have sung your favorite show tune(s) before an audience? It could be in front of a group of friends at a party or karaoke. What Male Broadway Star Would You Like To Hear Sing A Song Made Famous By A Woman?

Hi. This was the only original question I could think of on short notice. Anyway, I have some favorite Broadway diva songs: "Memory", "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "As If We Never Said Goodbye", to name a few. Has there ever been a show/concert where male singers perform those beloved Broadway standards? The songs are lovely and interpreted so magnificently, as only Miss Patti can. For me, the most poignant song is: "My Buddy". It is dedicated to the memory of Dick Gallagher, Patti LuPone's musical director of many years. I met him once with Miss Patti,in November 2003, after a concert. He took a picture of...

Miss Patti was slated to play "Sunset" in London and then on Broadway. Apparently, the reviews were mixed in London. Frank Rich certainly didn't help with his scathing reviews. Meanwhile, G C began her role in Los Angeles and got better reviews (even with her limited vocal range).
